About NTIA Nominations
- What is the nomination process?
This year, we are accepting peer nominations only. The nominator needs to be a representative of any travel industry business. They are allowed to make one nomination in each category i.e., the nominator may nominate their best travel consultant, favourite sales executive, another business or supplier.
Where more than one nomination is submitted from the same agency/business, the first nomination received will stand and subsequent nominations be deemed invalid. Please click through any of the nomination forms below and follow the instructions to submit your nomination.
- How many nominations do I need to participate in NTIA?
Only one nomination is required to participate in NTIA. Supplementary nominations will be deemed invalid and will not count towards your score in any way.
Industry voting is a separate stage and will be for categories 21 - 31.
- When do nominations close?
Nominations close 5pm AEST, 14 July 2023.
- When will I be advised of a peer-nomination?
You will be contacted via email during the week of 24 July, to confirm your eligibility and acceptance into the stated category.
- If I have been nominated, do I need to provide a submission?
To proceed with categories 1 - 24, 32, 33 & 34 yes you would need to provide a submission.
Once your nomination has been accepted into the category, you will be asked to provide either a video or written submission depending on the category.

- When will nominees be announced?
Once you have completed your submission, you will be recognised as a nominee. Nominees will be announced in mid-August.
- What's the difference between a Most Outstanding and Most Popular Category?
Most Outstanding Categories will follow a 2 step judging proceed to determine the winner. Most Popular Categories are subject to a popularity vote by any individual working within the travel industry.

Category 1 - Most Outstanding Mobile / Home Based Travel Advisor
This award recognises the mobile / home based travel advisor who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable customer support services. Nominees in this category must be ATAS accredited themselves or be part of a mobile / home based travel network which is ATAS accredited. They must be an individual operator or sole proprietor, and have no employees. Admin and bookkeeping services may be outsourced.
Category 2 - Most Outstanding Travel Agency Manager
This award recognises the travel agency manager who displayed outstanding conduct in leadership development and effective team management. Nominees in this category must be employed by an ATAS accredited agency.
Category 3 - Most Outstanding Travel Consultant Corporate
This award recognises the corporate travel consultant who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable client support services. Nominees need to be a front line travel consultant and not hold a leadership position. Nominees in this category must be employed by an ATAS accredited agency.
Category 4 - Most Outstanding Travel Consultant Leisure
This award recognises the leisure travel consultant who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable customer support services. Nominees must be a frontline travel consultant, responsible for managing client bookings only. They must not have any leadership or team management responsibilities, or involved in day to day operations of the business. Nominees in this category must be employed by an ATAS accredited agency.
Category 5 - Rookie of the Year
This award recognises the travel consultant with less than two years’ experience, who displays impeccable customer support services and is committed to their professional development. Nominees in this category must be a newcomer to the travel industry with no prior experience, who joined the industry on/after 01 January 2022, and is employed by an ATAS accredited agency.
Category 6 - Most Outstanding Sales Executive - Air
This award recognises the airline sales executive who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable agent support services. Nominees need to be a field sales representative, BDM or Key Account Manager. They are actively involved in servicing frontline consultants and have responsibility for a specific territory or at least one agency group. They must not have direct staff or third-party sales team that reports to them.
Category 7 - Most Outstanding Sales Executive - Cruise
This award recognises the cruise sales executive who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable agent support services. Nominees need to be a field sales representative, BDM or Key Account Manager. They are actively involved in servicing frontline consultants and have responsibility for a specific territory or at least one agency group. They must not have direct staff or third-party sales team that reports to them.
Category 8 - Most Outstanding Sales Executive - Land Supply
This award recognises the land sales executive who displayed outstanding conduct in providing impeccable agent support services. This would include accommodation, tour operators, wholesalers, et al. Nominees need to be a field sales representative, BDM or Key Account Manager. They are actively involved in servicing frontline consultants and have responsibility for a specific territory or at least one agency group. They must not have direct staff or third-party sales team that reports to them.
Category 9 - Most Outstanding Employee Engagement and Recruitment Program
This award recognises the business which demonstrates outstanding conduct in employee engagement through workplace policies and practices that retain and recruit talent to the travel industry. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 10 - Most Outstanding Online Travel Agency
This award recognises the online travel agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and service delivery. For web-based travel agencies that allow consumers to research and book various travel products and services. Specifically, entrants in this category enable consumers to autonomously complete their transaction through a booking engine. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 11 - Most Outstanding Hybrid Online Travel Agency
This award recognises the online travel agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and service delivery. For web based travel agencies that also provide a personalised service through a travel consultant. Whilst the booking process may be online, consumers can communicate with their consultant via phone, email or virtually to receive recommendations and assistance with their travel plans. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 12 - Most Outstanding Business Events Travel Agency
This award recognises the business events agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and compelling customer service delivery. Nominees in this category must be corporate agencies which are involved in the management of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events. Should the company be both a Travel & Events Management Company, the events division needs to operate independently. Nominees in this category must also be ATAS Accredited.
Category 13 - Most Outstanding National Travel Management Company
This award recognises the corporate agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and compelling customer service delivery. Nominees in this category must be an independent operator, based in Australia only, and be ATAS Accredited.
Category 14 - Most Outstanding Global Travel Management Company
This award recognises the corporate agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and compelling customer service delivery. Nominees in this category are part of a global network with at least one office in Australia. The Australian-based office must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 15 - Most Outstanding Leisure Travel Agency - Single Location
This award recognises the single leisure agency which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and compelling customer service delivery. Nominees in this category must be ATAS accredited, a single location entity, and the majority of its business in the last 12 months must be generated by leisure clients.
Category 16 - Most Outstanding Leisure Travel Agency - Multi Location
This award recognises the leisure agency operating across two or more locations, which demonstrates outstanding conduct in agency management and compelling customer service delivery. Nominees in this category must be ATAS accredited, operate in two or more locations, and the majority of its business must be generated by retail/leisure clients.
Category 17 - Sustainability Award - Business
This award recognises the agency which demonstrates a commitment to sustainability. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 18 - Most Outstanding Mobile Advisor Network
This award recognises the advisor network which demonstrates outstanding conduct in service delivery through its network of professional travel advisors operating remotely to the company headquarters. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 19 - Most Outstanding Travel Agency Group
This award recognises the agency group which demonstrates outstanding conduct in brand management, industry involvement, customer focus and industry partnerships. The stores must be fully branded. Nominees in this category must be an ATAS Accredited Travel Group.
Category 20 - Most Outstanding Non Branded Agency Group
This award recognises the non-branded travel agency group which demonstrates best practice in supporting their travel agency members. Nominees in this category must be ATAS Accredited.
Category 21 - Most Outstanding Tour Operator - Specialised
Nominees in this category design, plan, and organise their own branded tours, and are actively involved in setting the travel itineraries. They are also responsible for providing on-site services such as local representatives, transfers, tour guides, vehicles, etc.
Specifically, nominees operate their own tours in 1 - 2 continents for the Australian market. Their tours can be for sale via the retail market and/or directly to consumers. Nominees must also be ATAS Accredited. Should the nominee accept the nomination for this category, they will be precluded from participating in categories 22, 23 & 24.
Category 22 - Most Outstanding Tour Operator - Global
Nominees in this category design, plan, and organise their own branded tours, and are actively involved in setting the travel itineraries. They are also responsible for providing on-site services such as local representatives, transfers, tour guides, vehicles, etc.
Specifically, nominees operate their own tours in 3 or more continents for the Australian market. Their tours can be for sale via the retail market and/or directly to consumers. Nominees must also be ATAS Accredited. Should the nominee accept the nomination for this category, they will be precluded from participating in categories 21, 23 & 24.
Category 23 - Most Outstanding Wholesaler - Product / Service
Nominees in this category predominantly operates as a business-to-business intermediary, to facilitate the distribution of travel products to the retail travel agency sector. They are responsible for negotiating with suppliers to purchase travel products and services in bulk, and to repackage them for sale via travel retailers.
Specifically, nominees are wholesalers for the Australian market specialising in products such as hotel beds, cruise, car rentals, etc. Nominees must also be ATAS Accredited. Should the nominee accept the nomination for this category, they will be precluded from participating in categories 21, 22 & 24.
Category 24 - Most Outstanding Wholesaler - Destination / Experience
Nominees in this category predominantly operates as a business-to-business intermediary, to facilitate the distribution of travel products to the retail travel agency sector. They are responsible for negotiating with suppliers to purchase travel products and services in bulk, and to repackage them for sale via travel retailers.
Specifically, nominees are wholesalers for the Australian market specialising in destinations and/or experiences e.g., snow trips, safari's. Nominees must also be ATAS Accredited. Should the nominee accept the nomination for this category, they will be precluded from participating in categories 21, 22 & 23.
Category 25 - Most Popular Tourism Office
Nominees in this category must have an active trade program or product which will be approved by AFTA.
Category 26 - Most Popular Accommodation Group / Chain
A hotel or resort group which may be based either in Australia or internationally.
Category 27 - Most Popular Airline - Online
Carriers providing scheduled services originating in Australia using their own aircraft, to either a domestic or international destination.
Category 28 - Most Popular Airline - Offline
Carriers providing scheduled services between wholly international destinations, with no direct flights to or from Australia, using their own aircraft.
Category 29 - Most Popular Ocean Cruise Operator
Companies operating ocean cruises from either Australian or international ports.
Category 30 - Most Popular River Cruise Operator
Companies operating river cruises on a year round basis.
Category 31 - Most Popular Car Rental Operator
This category is restricted to companies which own and operate their own fleet of vehicles.
Category 32 - Most Outstanding Travel Industry Training Institution
This award recognises the travel industry training institution that best equips its students to work within the Travel & Tourism Industry.
Category 33 - Sustainability Award - Supplier
This award recognises the supplier which demonstrates a commitment to sustainability.
Category 34 - Innovation in Travel Support Services
Nominees in this category include GDS's, payment providers, travel insurance providers, consolidators and other travel support services. This category recognises the development and implementation of innovative solutions that leverage technology, client-centric strategies and unique offerings that benefit their clients.
Category 35 - Australia's Favourite Travel Agency
Category 36 - Australia's Favourite Travel Brand
Both are consumer-facing competitions, in partnership with ESCAPE.
